I'm the same starting Salmon Flyfishing for the first time next year I've bought myself a Grays 14ft 9/10 but dont have a reel or line for it yet so I'm hoping some of the more experienced Salmon fishers can give us some advice By the way I'll be using it on the Welsh Dee. JAD

I'd go along with Jolly roger, the Koma is a great reel for the price.

What are the Trion's/Koma's like weight wise ?
I tend to prefer a heavier reel on my big double handers as I feel they give a better point of balance.

Cheers for that Graham.
Quite suprised by the result, thought the good old fashioned Magnum would have been slightly heavier. Might be tempted to have a closer look at the Koma/Trion's now.
Best reel I have used for balancing a big double hander was one of Malcolm's 4 1/4" Perfects.

Thanks for all the advice!! Have ended up with a Shakespeare Pfleuger Trion (model 2858). Looks solid and has loads of capacity, (alleged DT12F + 220m Backing) think it was introduced in 2005? Anyway retails for £90 but I have found it for £57, or £65ish with postage ;D. In case anyone in interested was from www.rugbytackle.co.ukI dont think anyone mentioned this reel as recommended, have I done a booboo? I have one of these and also one a size smaller for my #9 line and I have absolutely no problem with them - for the money they are decent bits of kit. The Koma is also good and the main difference between the two is cosmetic, the Trion has a shiny finish and the Koma is more matt.
