I'm starting Flyfishing for Salmon for the first time this year. I've bought the Salmon rod 14ft and I've just bought a Vision Koma VK11 reel it will take a #9-11 line well thats what it says on the box.
What I would like to know is how much backing will I need I'll be putting a double taper floater. Snowbee D2 line on the reel. It also says on the box that with a WF11F its will take 270m of 30lb backing I dont know if that helps.
By the way I do have quite a bit of experience of Trout Flyfishing and I have done a bit of spinning for Salmon many years ago but as for Salmon flyfishing my experience is Nil.
Any help would be appreciated.

This reel should easily take around 200yds of 30lb. My preference is for house of hardy-i dunno its name but it is orange!!! A good way to check is to wind on the fly line, then put the backing on top until it fills the reel, this can be a hassle, but it saves any errors! your reel may well take more, but in all but exceptional circumstances you won't need that much, I think I only had 2 fish last year that took me into the backing at all!
Good luck, and enjoy your fishing! Blair
