I have a day booked on the Tay at Catholes & Pitlochrie this Friday and was a bit worried about the massive falls of snow we've had.If there's a thaw and the river rises dramatically at what point do you simply say no chance of fishing? I booked and paid online and don't want to try spinning, but is there times when you just have to cut your losses and accept it?
Cheers

I wouldn't worry to much about water levels there.
If the water is very high the fish run within 10yds of the bank so it may offer the best chance. Just make sure you have some very large and bright flys.
I think it will be the Pitlochry beat you are on with it being a Friday, i have fished it quite a few times now and there will be some good fly water to go at. Just make sure you get onto the bank on the lower part of the beat.

Looking at the forecast i think you will be fine. We spent a week ther ein Feb praying for 6ft of extra water.
Thats when it fishes best. The oly risk is from the Isla which can put a lot of colour in the water.

The water in the middle Tay area came up four inches today I would expect it to keep on coming, there is a definate thaw on ,certainly down this end . Check here and look at Ballathie levels and the levels on the Isla. Hope this helps.. www.fishtay.co.uk/pages/riverlevels.asp?dom=FishTay
