Dear All
We are off to fish the Ericht mid/end of July and being completely new to this would be grateful of any info re. tackle/flies/methods etc - can we get away with a 9'6" 7 weight? We are well equipped for reservoirs including plenty of traditional wet patterns, nymphs etc but do they work on rivers?
This is our first trip to Scotland so what are the prospects and what etiquette should we be aware of on the river?
Many thanks in advance.

Gillaroo in mid/end July you will need some water but this will depend on where on the Ericht you will be fishing. In low water the outfit you have will cope just, you may be better with a small double hander so you can roll/spey cast as some of the Ericht is tight for space .Wet flies will be OK but conventional salmon pattern's will be better(allys, cascades, silver stoats etc.)Also some beats will lend themselves to spinning and/or bait fishing if you like crawling about through the undergrowth.A point worth noting is on the Blairgowerie A.C. water many anglers use a 10/11ft single hander even in spring. There are two tackle shops in Blairgowerie (Crockarts and Kate Flemming's) side by side right in the center of town where info. permits tackle etc. are all available. If you are intending a private beat, and are suffering a lack of water/fish the Angling club water is well worth a shot and cheap too could save a disaster maybe.Tight lines Pedro.

Thanks Rennie We are heading for the shops for sure. Will keep the AC water in mind but even if we don't catch it will be far from a diaster - we will still be fishing. All the best Gillaroo
