Hi Dave
This fish was taken on a traditionally fished ally's. I have used the chuck-and-haul method a bit, but to no avail as yet. However, I wouldn't want to be seen using a method "with an unorthodox large fly" too often that may be frowned upon....know what I mean!!!!!

thanks for the info Grant!! Am i right in thinking that the faster broken water is better for the Grilse?? Dennis tells me that Grilse will run up a snottery hankie!! ;D so i assume that water isn't an issue!?! I gave it a try at the dump pool the other night with a line Dennis leant me, i saw one fish, but no takers.... although it was hell of a close to my fly when it jumped! Have you had much success with Sea Trout on the Ericht?? i only heard last year that they even existed? i dont suppose it has any Grayling does it?? alway fancied trying them out! Anyway, cheers for the tip! maybe i'll bump into you one night? John.

johnmac, many years ago the ericht had good numbers of grayling as did the isla, i think roach has taken over now. As far as the grilse goes,a single handed rod on a full floater and small flies. search the fast runs and the tails of pools just before dark.

i shall give it a go!! cheers for the info Grant! Im dying to get a fish on my 13ft'er...do you think i could use that until the water drops right back?? I had heard that the Ericht had Grayling?? but i thought it was a myth..... i may give it a go in the winter as catching a Grayling is on my to do list...right behind catching a Salmon!! ;D Im planning on going down a few nights this week between Westmill and Eastmill.... seeing as it close to my house!! are there any bits in this area i should be looking to try? i know that most people dont bother with them... but i think thats just just through laziness anyway, i shall give it a try! Cheers for the info! John.

hello john. the water has dropped back now " , so try the lade poolat the top, but dont wade in to fast as the fish may be at your feet. stand in the river and cast into the left bank under the trees, and wait for the pull fish tend to sit in this area when the water drops.
