Had a great day out on the Tay at Kercock today, but probably, like the rest of the country, the wind played a huge part on the days proceedings. With No.1 priority not hooking myself,I found I developed this low-to-the water strange cast that seemed to work a treat with the wind sort of behind/up/downsteam/in-between.Changing to the opposite bank in the afternoon I really struggled, with the wind generally in my face.Is there a particular cast that deals with really strong winds or a variation to a single/double Spey?
Cheers

as above, but would add release the line a fraction later- many years practice in caithness. I find an intermediate line cuts through the wind just fine.

This should confuse things, just got back from the Dee (Invery) and on Saturday the wind was getting a bit norty in the afternoon/early evening. The wind was blowing quite hard off my back veering both upstream and downstream then hitting the far bank and swirling every where,I was fishing a 16ft powerlite with a 10/11 accelerator, intermediate polytip and small temple dog tube, and throwing about 35 ish yd.About one cast in 4 went OK without the wind wrecking either single/double spey as I formed my D loop or the final delivery itself.I was fishing a pool tail/glide and when I got the line/fly out noticed fish splashing about as my line passed over them.Seen this behavior before particularly on hard fished association waters, so I put up my merlin 16ft 7/9 with an 8/9 accelerator, the same polytip and fly, trying not to scare the fish with a lighter line.My casting suffered not one bit in fact it got better as the heavier tip of the merlin gave my cast greater momentum and not line speed,I hit the spot just as easy but every other cast was successful now. This run down fish didn't show as my line passed over/close to them,in fact the only fish that did show was one that took and was successfully landed .The light line solved the spooking fish issue, but the old tech. heavier tipped rod bossed the line out just fine. Its a thought that the new generation lighter fast action rods whist giving us greater line speed may not be what we always want! Pedro.
