As you can proberly tell by my user name I am a carp fisherman but i also trout fish with a fly rod.
Up here in the lake district there are a few rivers containing salmon & trout but these are very expensive.
here i go...
At work today my boss said he saw a picture of me holding a carp in last nights local paper. As they helped me get my money back from telephone tackle I was asked to be in it.
He said that his brother lives in Kendal & owns a 3 mile strech containing 4 big pools of the River Mint. This river has lots of salmon & sea trout in along with some brown trout & proberly some other species. He also said that as I worked for him if I want him to he will phone his brother & say when I want to come up & he will let me fish for free!!!
So will my 8' 6" fly rod (6wt) be ok for the odd session on a river going for some salmon? I HAVE BEEN TOLD NO SO WOULD A SPINNING ROD BE BETTER? (sorry didnt mean to do caps)
Also can anyone reccomend some flys & some spinners to catch them on?
Finally when is the best time to fish for them? Summer etc...
cheers james

Most of the rivers in the NW are late rivers (aug to oct) so I doubt the Mint is any different. Is the mint a tributary of the Kent ?? A spinning rod would be ok but a 10' 8wt would be better (more fun).
