Well as some of you have probably guessed by my silence over the last few weeks, the first season got off to a blank!! Although to be fair..... i didn't start until April? so only managed about 7months... so not quite a full season Anyway, thanks for all the advise from you guys, and in no time at all the season is back on... then i'll get my first of several!!! I'm setting my target at a respectable but not over the top three for the 2007 season... but to be honest i'd settle for one....... as long as it comes in the first month!! ;D ;D So anyway, cheers for the help guys! Wet Cel II in January here i come!

Im afraid that i am Samonless on any method! I fished the fly every time this year with the exception of one day when i spun (high water ) and another day when i wormed (desperation!! ) But i think i will get myself a Spinning kit for the start of the season..... just incase! Mind you i've never caught a fish on a spinning or bait rod.... I didnt take up fishing until i was ten or eleven, so it was straight onto the fly rod!

I've also joined the club John ;D Its my first season with the Salmon fly rod and after a few near misses I still haven't had one on the bank I have had them on Spinners years ago but its just not the same as trying to catching one on the fly. I keep telling myself I'll get one next year

Stick at it Johnmac lad, your first fly Salmon is coming at you quicker every minute. You are fishing in the right place in the Ericht just concentrate on presentation, get that right and Salar will follow. Now is the time to get your outfit just right, reel properly filled, backing knots secure, loops properly done, fly box stocked(don't go mad on patterns stick to a few but have plenty of different sizes) and maybe a casting lesson or two.The reason for all this is to build your confidence, get out there at the start of the season and concentrate on casting a straight line as far as you need,if your cast doesn't fall straight pull back your line till its straight thats the secret a straight tight line to the fly then it looks alive.Watch other anglers,if they catch do what they do where they do it,better still get a regular fishing pal you will learn a lot quicker.Seasons start fish the pools upstream of Kitty Swansons, good holding pools there until the water warms and the fish clear Cargills, use a multi-tip or poly-tip presentation with a wee bottle tube with a long wing(black and yellow), aim to get a swing through the pool without snagging bottom so vary your sinking tip as needed.Your outfit is right, fly is right, presentation is right, right place any time, just cross the path of Salar.Important bit now,Camera for that first fish picture we all want to see that one.Good luck and tight lines, Pedro.

I think a bottle to the river would be fair.... mind you if i have no fish by the end of the year i'll be looking for a re-fill!! And thanks for the tips Pedro! I can cast well enough for the Ericht... well at least i think i can!!! well at least i've caught the far bank on the wider pools!!! hahaha that'll be 20yd's then!! I take what you all say on board and next year is a new one! I'm determined to stick with the fly come rain snow or shine!! or at least i'll die trying!!! Remind me of my last comment..... when i post a pic of my first Salmon caught in June 2007......... on a worm!!!!! Cheers all for the advice! keep it coming!

fish hard but don't loose concentration 2007 will be your year. once the first is on the bank there will be no stopping you! it took me 3years to land my first salmon and ended up with 3 in one day nearly cartwheeled home! I'm looking to get up the Erich early season so leave that bottle till then i will stand down stream and try drink it on way past ;D

my first time salmon fishing on the tyne with a fly i got one. had a few on then lost them. same goes for spinning. i have never tried fishing with bait yet for them.
prefer the fly, but will try anything when times are desperate.
