A thread earlier this year concluded that the turtle knot was the best to attach a fly to the leader from a presentation point of view . I have always used this knot with Maxima and similar type leader materials . However moving to a fluorocarbon leader I have found that a conventional turtle knot can slip. I have tried various ways to overcome this ( " improved turtle " etc. ) but none give me complete confidence. I have now resorted to a half blood with the line taken twice through the eye , this reduces the "hinging"but presentation is still not as good as a turtle . I am thinking about returning to Maxima and my beloved turtles , any thoughts ??

I never use flurocarbon as I think its all over priced hype. Others may disagree but I wouldn't want to end up at loggerheads with anyone over it...

Jaxck5, never come across the "turtle" knot before, how do you tie it ? Use maxima line myself though and with a neat "turle" knot, always fish with confidence, as I too have experienced the odd slipped knot, trying out flurocarbon before.

You are right it's a turle - -friend of mine always refers to it as a turtle and it's stuck !

I usually do a single version so called " improved turle knot "as per Peter Owen book page 48. I've also tried the double but this slips with fluorocarbon as well

Hi Altmor My version of the turle is exactly the same as on your link this is the single version described by Peter Owen as the Improved Turle - -Ive used it for yonks with Maxima and it has never let me down - -different story with fluorocarbon!
