got some good rivers within 30 mins to 1hr drive. river forth, teith, and Alan all excellent also on the teith system the river balvaig/Lenny not sure when the Lenny becomes balvaig maybe loch lubnig? hooked salmon on trout fly's in balvaig bellow loch voil nice trout and salmon water although the clear water and narrow river is single hand rod stuff. the river carron is on your door step cheep fishing with a improving run every year (as I'm told) also the almond (my local river) crammond nr Edinburgh is the hot spot churns out salmon at back end but hard to fish and harder to tempt on fly. but £20 for season and a surprising number of sea trout its worth it. check fishalmond on a google search

www.kinkellfishings.co.uk/Don't know much about the Almond Gaz, but this link could be worth your looking into. I fish it spring and back end and normally do okay. Always a chance in March, if your "champing at the bit " and at c£20.00 for the rod, not a bad price for a genuine chance at a spring fish.

yes the almond runs by the airport. little if any angling pressure round that part tho it might be worth thinking about a membership for crammond as a stand by the bottom half is tide affected and offers a passage over a gorge on high tide for the salmon and sea trout then they have a short section about 300yards before the wear so fish will show if there. not kind of river you would fish all day maybe a 1hr or 2 although above the falls there is plenty of nice very lightly fished water. (nice for Almond) trout gear is fine just step up your leader mostly grilse and 25yards or so wide at most the sea trout run is improving bar this year (plenty of small ones) but had some great browns from this river mostly further up around mid calder to livi stadium where there is no tickets, ie not free but no one bothers about it due to no one knowing who has fishing rights all the clubs are gone that controlled the fishing by great i men 3lb+ wild fish from a bad river (one of most polluted in Scotland) admittedly that was a few years ago ;D

Welles would do but waders is my choice. if fishing bellow the wear to country park is best bet and during a hatch. need to see trout on the move not the numbers to fish blind. for salmon between the two wears is best but very few get caught and true back end stuff sea trout will keep there heads down during day but after dark is good if river has been up. trout and salmon were doing a shoot for a article on urban salmon fishing down crammond in Oct (last 2days) but think they would be washed out interesting if they doctor article or wait until next year
