Garry4,
In higher water and if permitted then give the spinner a go if you are desperate for a fish, but personally i would stick with the fly.
What rivers have you been fishing ?.
Do you know if there is an Association local to you, if so then it may be worth joining or you could ask Salmonking for a lesson ;D.

Garry, it seems that the Tay is not having the best of seasons. You might be better off trying another river?

Can't argue with you there on the money side. The Tay is a huge river and not performing unless you get on one of the lower beats, so to hook into a fish i suppose would take more of luck than skill.
Maybe you should change venues and take a couple of days on the Esks. Smaller rivers with plenty of fish and some beats are very reasonably priced. Better odds of hooking a fish on the fly than the Tay.
