Glasgow angling centre sometimes have them but you need to see them as they are of varying quality. There are always some on e-bay.

I got mine from Fishermans Feathers but I'm not sure if they are still trading. If they are trading they sell capes and half capes in several grades as well as smaller feather selections.

one tip I just learned at an angling fair on Saturday was from one of Ireland's top salmon fly tiers.
When he is tying in JC especially roofed (ie. behind the front hackle) he always ties it in on the black part. The reason for this is that the black area is softer and more mobile. The white marked areas are harder and so if you tie it in at that point it is more brittle and likely to split easier. For this reason he always buys JC which has a second 'blk area' - ie. white tip/eye - then first blk area, another white area and then the second bk area.
As I say this may be a useful tip when you are looking at various capes.
Hope this helps

Very good tip Easky, thanks for that one.
I think that I usually do this anyway because it looks better, but I'll make sure that I always do from now on.

I bought a cheap jungle cock cape from ebay as its feathers were all a bit split. An easy fix is select your pair of eyes and wipe each side with clear nail varnish, working from stem to tip, and they then appear as good as grade A1 !

I used to try and mess around mending the splits but there is no substitute for a top quality AA grade cape. Having said that, I doubt the fish care one Jot if the eye is split or not. It is nice to have that unmistakable quality though and it does wonders for confidence
