Is there a substitute for boars bristles and any idea where i can view a step by step tying of the PBP, ..................CORKY

Mr. Park from McHardy's of Carlisle is very adept at tying these and would demonstrate if you can get to the shop. Otherwise, I would suggest you ring him- he is generally very helpful. Mike

Thanks springer ,i just done 2 with the hackle stalks, their ok and i probably wont need the bristles either as i wont be tying many ,nice tip.................corky

natural paintbrush bristles have been known to work - if you pull them through the fingers to curve them, but since pig bristles are only £1=50 for a pack it seems like false economy when taken against the costs of salmon fishing

On the subject of PBP's, be careful how you store them. I left about thirty in a tube fly box and many of them have now got flattened and mis-shapen bristles, which is annoying...

Mishapen Bristles on PBP's, easy fix - use the missus' hair straighteners (GHD's are the biz).
It will allow you to put in as much as a curve as you want
