Cool flies- My favourite cold water pattern. When I catch a fish on my one next spring ( When not if!) I will tell my mates it was tied on a rolling ship!

Alan, I am glad you made your mind up- very nice flies!
It would be quite fun to do another swap in the future that was just size 6 cascade variants- we all tie our own version and it would be very interesting to see the results!
Cheers, Simon

nice flies springer one question re hook size - when you say size 6 is that an ED size 6? I would normally use size 12, 10 or occassionally 8 - so is your size 6 one bigger again? (I didn't think ED did silver and gold trebles bigger than 10?) E

cheers guys, that is good to know they make them up to 6's
I agree Springer, I'm a fan and think the coloured hooks gives them a little bit extra, I think asthetically they really look well in some patterns in particular. Whether or not salar agrees is another question ;D

was just thinking those guys still tying - why don't you do a step by step of the fly you are doing as you go? It may also help break up the tedium of tying 10 flies in a row ;D

Well, thats mine done. Cascade variant, size 6 silver Esmond Drury, stood me well the last couple of seasons. Springer do you tie a loop of nylon at back of the treble? I used to do this to stop the tails wrapping round the hooks but found it changed the way the fly swims

Tedium of tying 10 in a row. You want to tye commercially- how abaout the tedium of 400 cascades in a row Got to go only another 2000 flies to do. Frank

Like the flies boys - keep them coming !! There's been a few hours spent at the vice over this fly swap. Like Colin, I like to experiment - above being some of the waddingtons I use. Count me in for the next fly swap - I missed this one.

That is my Silver Allies finished. Tied on size 9 silver salar doubles. I will attempt a step by step if I get a chance.

Yes, it is the same as the original, but with a silver body and fluorescent fire orange head. I also omit the crystal flash in the tail, I find that it works far better for me without it.

Done. A sort of Fast Eddie inspired (if that's the right word) Templedog. Has a real glow in peaty water. Looking forward to getting the other flies back, they all look real crackers. Andy

Easky, Yes I tie in a small loop at the base of the hook, I use 6lb line about 0.18mm, its so fine I cant say Ive noticed any real difference to how the fly swims. My catch rates havn't varied noticably since using this loop so Ive never really thought about it. It just saves the hassle of checking the tails. I was using 10-12lb line which I think was the difference (it meant the tail was at an angle of about 20 degrees). It does reduce the amount of tangles though
