This small fish imitation is a 'must' pattern for any sea trout fisher, especially when the quarry is new in from the sea.
Hook: size 4-10 low water salmon single Thread: Red Body: Silver tinsel Rib: Oval silver tinsel Hackle: Blue cock Wing: Well-marked teal, mallard or wigeon Head: Red

Shrimpin,
Never tried it for brownies, but I imagine in smaller sizes it could work on days of bright skies.
ps. popped some flies in the post today, so you should get them soon.

Shrimpin,

Lovely flies! However, they are closer to a "Sunk-Lure" than a Medicine. I also use the grizzle hackle - looks great. I can hear the sea-trout closing in...

Cheers Sloggi, Yes you are right, not really a Medicine, just "porting" the main colur scheme over to the snake fly. What really makes these flies tick in my opinion is the very slim grizzle hackleand they are mostly fished deep and slow

Agreed - the grizzle hackle has that "fishy" look. Do you use it on any other flies? I usually have it any waddingtons I tie up.

Not with the grizzle but I use the Vulturine quinea fowl for the elver snake Black Metz for the Black Adder and a black with green tinge running through it for the night demon

Really good-looking flies. Do you have pictures of how you make the body for the snake flies?

Really good-looking flies. Do you have pictures of how you make the body for the snake flies? Sloggi, I really couldn't do a better job than the Stefan Jones step by step here www.seatroutfishing.net/steff.htmMy own page is on the same site here www.seatroutfishing.net/snakes.htmThe secret to tying snakes because of the fexibility of the mount is to use your left hand as the vice
