So am I to understand that in Britain it is illegal to use heron, at all, is it illegal to send for from outside Britain as well? You could use schlappen, tends to be a bit "bulky" but if one remove one side of the feather it wont look as over dressed, but feathers are a bit on the soft side IMO. Also for smaller sized flies I've used golden pheasant feathers dyed black. Also there are "Whiting spey capes" which are to be similar to the old time, Spey rooster necks. Never tried them have heard both good and bad especially the first capes on market here in Sweden were apparently of mixed quality, but that's some years ago now. There is usually no problem to get hold of heron here in Sweden... Jan

Its not illegal to use Heron, they are just very difficult to get in the UK as the bird is protected.A taxidermist a couple of months ago was selling heron feathers on ebay.I used to source feathers from a taxidermist i new and got feathers that wasnt readily available in shops. As you say splicedsharpe you have no problem in Sweden or here in Norway.

Dyed black, heron makes a beautifully mobile Willie Gunn instead of black buck.

Hi John: These are all tied with heron, natural grey or colored black. I think you use both neck- throat- as well as feathers from the side and back. Always bought them in a bag hair wings An "oldie" with grey heron stu47: Ok, then i suppose our British friends could bye them from Sweden/Norway I've seen them on Swedish sites 10 feathers a pack approx. 3.60 £ Jan

Splicedsharpe I dont see why not,you need no cites for these, so if they ship abroad should be no problem, some of the ones i have seen come from Ken Sawada in Japan. Some nice flies there, the bottom fly is similar to flies i had been making.
