Well, just completed a wee tying spree... done some 1.5 inch copper tubes. Any comments/advice would be gratefully accepted - should they be an ok size for the Ericht and Isla in the coming weeks? Cheers.

They look the business, the profile and wing length is excellent!!! If I was really forced to criticise in any way, it would be that my preference when using bucktail is for a lighter dressing (less bucktail). However, the shadow against the background often makes them look heavier dressed in a photograph, so they are probably perfect They all look like they will catch plenty of fish.

Nice blend of colours and nice form. For me, they have too much hair. I like fairly sparsley tied flies.

Nice but a wee bit overdressed. Really like the one bottom right- a wilkinson?

Cheers for the comments chaps! I seem to always overdress my salmon flies, even when intend to make them sparse I guess just to keep practicing is the key. Macd, the bottom right fly is just a creation with a mix of pink and white bucktail with blue on top - is that similar to a Wilkinson?

JK I struggled with this too when i started tube flies. It really is amazing how little you need. I use literally 6or7 strands of bucktail in some of my patterns. Remember the less there is, the more it can move. TOP TIP I cut a chunk off the bucktail and keep it in a paperclip. This way it's easy to grab a few strands at a time and there's less wastage. jkboy, they are good flies, perhaps alittle overdressed (as commented by others),but I wouldn't be too concerned with this, if using these for spring fish.

the wilkinson has blue, silver and magenta- quite similar.
re: the dressing, lomond has a point, although i would add that its wise to have a range tied:some sparse some more heavily dressed....you never know.

I would be a little concerned with the heavier dressing if fishing clearer rivers i.e. Dee. For peaty rivers they are fine. IMO, less is more in clearer water. Nice flies though.
