Granters, another nice fly. Black & silver seems to work well on the Leven. Would be good to see something with these colours ?

i don't actually! life's terribly boring at the minute and i like inventing things when i'm bored at work all day. I've not got much else to do actually, and with the season starting again it provides therapy until i actually get fishing. I've also discovered the excitement of selling my spares on e-bay. Great when you see the price go up 2 quid in the last second!

Jungle cock version. Fanfare please ;D not a great picture, there are 2 strands of crinkleflash in the wing too, you just can't see it.

Lomond, i'm always a bit wary of putting too much flash in patterns. If i use a shiny body then i'll leave it out. But i know where you're coming from. I'll definitely have one or two with a flashier wing nice tying granters. i know where you are coming from with too much flash. Have you tried a few strands of angel hair- no bulk, but just a nice wee sparkle.

Another nice fly Granters, although I think I prefer the 3 above with more Black in the wings. Only my opinion of course. I am sure this one will get fish.
Have you ever tied any on the Loop silver or gold bottle tubes ? Alot of people use these on the Leven.

Lomond, i've got a box full of brass tubes, my only problem with them is that a plastic tube moves so much better (on my opinion). I prefer coneheads to bottle tubes but of course they have their place. I always carry some anyway. I've not tried the loop ones yet so that might be the next venture! And ps, i agree with you about the black. I'm waiting on more arriving so i thought i'd give the orange a bash

I agree plastic/Alu tubes move better. Although when the Leven is high, something a bit heavier is required to get the fly down abit further in the water. A brass tube can be hard going all day, therefore the loop tubes are handy.
I think I read somewhere that the Leven is the second fastest flowing river in Britain after the Spey. May be wrong here though.

Right, i think i've nailed it. thanks for all the input everyone. i hope this thread has been interesting and shows how flies develop to those that don't tie themselves. This one, i only put the liner in half way, which means the hook fits neatly into the plastic tube. I feel that silicone tubing can really ruin the look of a fly sometimes. I heard that too Lomond, about the Leven. Will definitely get some brass tubes in the box. Cheers for all the advice ;D

There's not too much strength there for any sudden impacts. I bought one last year and love it to bits but only for floating line/light fly work. Lovely flies , by the way. See you down the Leven once the water drops. I'm the grumpy git in the ancient , dark green citroen at the Bonhill bridge carpark. TTFN.
