The tail and tippets of an ally's and the rest of it is templedog. The wing isn't a solid as it looks and doesn't impede hooking. It's only accounted for a few so far but then there aren't many in the rivers I fish anyway! Andy

That looks smashing mate. Why upside down though? Is it to avoid snagging? I like patterns that combine fishy features, i try to do this myself on my own patterns. That's a fantastic looking effort.

Interesting,do they swim that way up or does the weight of the hook points pull it round so the hook points are down

Is it? Are you sure its not everybody else's flies that are upside down It is just one of my pet theories. To start with it was just to stop the fly fouling on weeds but I think they hook and hold better that way up. I always found the best hold with a treble was when the top two hooks went into the roof of the mouth/upper jaw so why not turn the double over? I fish mostly small rivers where the fish are very much under the rod top during the fight. If nothing else the hook will always be pulled up into the hold during the fight rather than being levered about all over the place as it would if it was stuck in the lower jaw. Of course this might all be cobblers but it makes me happy A bare double (or single) will swim upside down anyway so there is no problem there. If you doubt this see the replies by John Gray and silver stoat in this thread seatrout.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Fly&action=display&thread=1169292257Andy
