Ola, Just thoguht I'd post a pic of some wee flies I was tying up lastnight. (Photo doesn't look as good now I've uploaded it ) I have hopefully managed to tie them sparser this time and I made a conscious effort to keep the heads small (using 8/0 thread helps too) but they may look odd on these Big Mouth Double hooks (Size 12 but I think they look larger!) Anyway, lets see what you think? Clydebuilt

Nice flees - clydebuilt...I got some commercially tied ones with these big mouth doubles a couple of weeks ago and whilst I have not landed any salmon yet I have had several good pulls and landed a sea trout on a cascade type pattern
I like the one on the back right...
good luck with them

I'm sure you're time will come juststartedagain I think when you first look at the hooks they are quite deceiving with the gape size and shorter shank however, i think they do look great in the water and sit nice in any type of current. Out of interest, where did you get them comercially? Was it on ebay? Just curious as I like to compare how other tie. Cheers Clydebuilt

I bought them in a new tackle shop in London that was advertised in T&S - Graingers I think. (Bloody expensive BTW).
I bought them as they looked nice and your right they do seem to swim well which was a bonus
From memory I think they may have been tied by Donegal Fly Company...

While they look well tied I can not help but wonder about the size of the hooks compared to the size of the dressing. It seems like the hook is the main object and the fly part is less noticeable. Don't they put the fish off?

The hook size does take a bit of getting used to, particularly the gape but I wouldn't let that put you off, they do swim very well and I wasn't convinced about them being lightly dressed until I witnessed them taking a fair few fish. Give one a go, 10 for £3-00 you can't go wrong. (just get a size smaller than what you want to tie some up on, what I mean is if you normally tie up 10's in particular, go for the BMD size 12's)

Hello Clydebuilt, Great flies that do work, my friend is just back from the Brora and these took all of his fish for the week (5), admittedly, he did lose a very large fish in the Style, 20lb+++, but that was more down to not being able, (too scared) to follow down through the next 2 pools. (chaffed leader) BTW, the GAC has a "bargain bucket" on the go with the "Salar" tube fly hook, which is almost identical to these ones, probably come off the same machine, available in black, gold and silver. Well worth a tye!! Kenziemac PS anyone got stocks of Silver Salars in the smaller sizes they won't use? They are increasingly difficult to obtain.

The bmd tied by donegal cost £3.50 each, when you consider you can get 10 hooks for£2.99 they are making a vast profit on them. Also they are easy to tie. I use them them on tube flies instead of trebles and cannot fault them. KENZIEMAC try tweedside tackle in kelso for salars.

Very nice cascade styles Clydebuilt - have no doubt they'll catch fish. I do prefer a sparser tied fly, and yours are spot on IMO.
Well done,
Altmor
