Billy,
Have you had any of these break on you?.
To date any that i have used seem to break off the tips.
The silver are slightly better.
Never had a problem with loop doubles. Don't know if you get them in gold.

Salars not only snap off at the tip, they do straighten out in big fish - seen this 3 times in Russia - whereas I haven't yet seen or heard of Loop tube doubles breaking of straightening out. Mike

While I have a few flies tied on salar singles and doubles, I'd reckon an average of half the salar hooks I get my hands upon are rubbish and fail the basic "plier test". I have had 3 or 4 salar hooks snap in the vice from pressure of thread. Their manufacturing process is dodgy in the extreme, it is a shame because if they got the process right, and made their range of hooks in gold and silver, I'd put a bet on them selling more gold and silver hooks than black hooks. Another partridge hook that is brittle, is the grey shadow. In I think the early nineties I lost a couple of unremarkable fish with clean breaks at the hook bend and when I checked the problem out at Partridge one of their most experienced members of staff admitted the salmon grey shadow hooks were basically...rubbish!

RPSALMON, look at the original question. It asks where can you get them, not are they any good !

Yes I did notice the original question, but the thread moved on to the subject of "quality" and so gave my opinion. I don't know which shops have them in stock and which don't. Does anyone have an update to the availability of Partridge hooks?
They are beautiful hooks, my only other gripe about them is that the points are curved in-wards while I prefer outpoint hooks. Oh, and another gripe, I'd prefer the shanks to be longer...perhaps they should just make a LW/Wilson double version for me.

Was in Farlows yesterday - they only had a limited selection of sizes in black and in fact their Sportfish website now has this statement:-
"We have expereinced a very poor delivery this year from our supplier for Partridge hooks due to production problems. We have recieved updated delivery dates from our supplier and there is a very long delay (some as far as 2008).
Due to this ongoing situation we have had to remove some of the sizes from the range of Partridge hooks. Very sorry for any inconvenience caused. "

Lomond,
It was me who asked Billy the question. This is what got us discussing the quality side of these hooks as i wanted to know if he had problems with them. I don't buy them as they are pish!!!!!!
RPS is just adding his view, no issue.
