Firstly, Happy New Year to you all ;D
Secondly, last night I was given the option of buying a boxed and unused Rio Accelerator tips 10/11 line as the owner has never used it. ( The owner was sober at the time!!)
I was wondering if anybody on here has used this line and would like to hear any opinions about it please.
Is it akin to the midspey or more like the windcutter profile?
I know they were an older model (Many a good tune played out an old fiddle!) but it really is minted so I might be tempted, just thought i'd put it too the board first.
Anyway, I'm away for a curer.
Best wished for '07 John

Excellent line for long casting and big swings. I use mine with a 16' B&W Norway and find it just right.
It is not for everyone however and unless you are an accomplished speycaster I would go for the Midspey.
All the best for 2007

Thanks springer, makes for some very interesting reading. Looks like I'll need to try before I buy as usual then.
All the best

The Tips version doesn't have the 'hinge' mentioned in Aly's review.
John.... if you don't buy I would be interested if your mate is selling. My line has seen a good bit of action and wont last for ever. Don't understand why Rio discontinued the Accelerator in favour of the Grandspey which I found to be a dog... my version at least... although they have since altered it's profile.

The Tips version doesn't have the 'hinge' mentioned in Aly's review. The tips version I had, had the power hinge mentioned. I thought it was the best line Rio made, which is not huge praise, but I was baffled when they discontinued them and brought out the Grand Spey. I was given a set of these to try, the only one castable was the 8/9 and that was on a 16ft B&W 11 weight.

Oh for a world of standardisation. We had something akin to standardisation till the Americans invented speycasting in the late 80s then they had to have their own lines and like most things American they were grossly overweight. Now they complain that British lines are too light, and have brought out a "standard" agreed in Denver without inviting any British line maker. You have to try before you buy as the rod rating is also so subjective.

What about the other lines, such as the mid spey are they over-weight as well?

What about the other lines, such as the mid spey are they over-weight as well? No they just have the weight in the wrong places. IMO
