Already thinking ahead to next season, as you do!
Looking at beats handy for Dunkeld for next April. Anyone fished Newtyle? I'm obviously getting lazy now that I've hit middle-age and don't fancy the drive to Farleyer every day, despite the fact that it's a lovely bit of water.

yep - caught my first salmon there (on fly from cotters)!! The days I've spent there I've been either the only one fishing, or maybe one or two others, so I've had the pick of the pools and primarily fished the two best fly pools on the beat, so I can't comment on the rest. Its been a long time since I last fished and I've heard that at times the beat can be really overcrowded (I think they take up to 10 or 12 rods at a time). I imagine this would be more of a problem at the back end than in spring though.

HI GUYS I fish Newtyle quite a lot the beat is split into two, lower and upper the lower is an amazing fly beat, the ghillie Jock monteith has changed this beat for the better since he took over, the croys have been removed and there has been many bolders placed up and down the beat ,there is plenty of room for anglers there is six rods on the upper and six rods on the lower this beat has double banks and there are plenty of named pools. The hut is truley awesome in its settings and the hospitality is second to none

I've always liked the look of this beat, particularly the photo on the fishtay site. The catch returns have always deterred me though

Fished here yesterday and caught 3 salmon (all returned), best 16lbs in the Boil - the other two came from the steps. All fish were taken on an intermediate and 1" willie Gunn tube. We hit it at its very best fishing height according to Jock. I would not disagree.
A great day out, the five of us managed 8 fish all on fly.
Also - i have NEVER seen so many fry in the margins of a river before.

No pic's im afraid, it was quite an intense session given the distance we travelled and the cash we paid for just the 1 days fishing - the gamble paid off. We were on and off the phone to Jock the gillie numerous times, so was v last minute.
Looking good for Sunday, although the release has been stopped for 4hrs this morning to remover some debris from somewhere.
