Hi Ian, I have one of the 75ft 10/11 Impact lines myself. It takes a little while to get used to the agressive (almost shooting head) profile of the line but once you do, it goes pretty well in all wind conditions. It's easy enough to get really tight forward loops with this profile and hence good line speed. Ridged running line works very well and they also go miles with an overhead cast. If you shop around you should get them fairly cheap as well. I think I paid fifty-something euros for mine last year which is about £35-£40. The 75ft 10/11 might feel a tad heavy for some 15ft #10 rods although this is very much a matter of personal preference. Gerard

Agree with all of the above. Had one on loan last year in Norway. Great for tips and biggish flies....turns over eveytime and no sacrifice on distance. The sink1/2 is also good. It's the shorter head but I like the density compensated profile i..e tip sinks first.
The just one point. The head length is measured into your hand not the rod tip.

Thanks for that Ger I've gotten fed up of my homebrew wet2 today, over the last year I have made 4 modifications to this line to suite and after fishing with it today I have decided to bite the bullet and splash for a new one, but which one? A main attribute has to be able to turn over 2" heavy copper tubes (type2 I think) Short list are Hardy MachII Wet2/5 Ian Gordon 65' fast sink any experience or suggestions welcome

I don't have a lot of experience, but I was extremely impressed with the Guideline Impact 1/2 sinking line. It handled large copper tubes fine, shot out, and made speycasting with a sinking line much easier.

The hardy Mach wet 2 and/or the fast intermediate (2in per sec) are both good lines with excellent turn over qualities for large flies. I use the the fast intermediate but I cut 10ft off the front taper and add faster tips when needed. It works great.

Yes Storlaks I had heard the hardy turned heavy over quite well, I'm going to spring for the Hardy Wet5 and the Impact cos I am now convinced I need both.
Thanks for making me spend more than I have.
Ah well! my child will just have to make his shoes last a bit longer.

Yes Storlaks I had heard the hardy turned heavy over quite well, I'm going to spring for the Hardy Wet5 In my experience the Wet 5 variety is not a pleasant line to cast in comparison with the two Storlaks mentions. Try if you can before you buy.

Thanks for the info Jim
I just assumed the Wet5 behaved the same as the '2'.

I would class the Wet 5 as a specialised line for limited use. i.e. very deep pools. For most Spring/late Autumn fishing a wet 2 or equivalent is sufficient....IMO.

The only times I have caught fish on the Wet 5 was on the Tweed in October with 3' on the guage (the ghillie was insistent that I put it on). I did get 3 that day but I still think I would have got them on a wet 2. The other time when it really did come in handy was on the Dee at Invery in March in 2005 with 4'6" on the guage. Most of the other rods had given up but I got a cracking 10 pd fish in a bit that we usually are wading through. The fast sink definitely helped there. Sorry I fear that we are getting off subject which is Bill Drury Impact Speylines. I really fancy the S1/S2 and think I will get one .

Sounds like an interesting line. I'm assuming the S1/2 is 62', not 74'. Anyone have a head weight for it in 9/10 and 10/11?

Just to add my thoughts- The sink 1/2 is a very user friendly line- Easy to cast, and you can really see it sinking tip first in a nice straight line rather than bellying.
