Does anyone have any experience of using these patterns and when and where may they be considered worthy of a swim?

I know somebody that fishes almost exclusively with various francis type patterns throughout the season and has above average success. He fishes them in various formats from 2 inch copper tubes to tiny conehead style patterns, depending on the conditions and time of year.

I have never heard of these, does anybody have pictures to show what they look like? Here you go. www.frances.is/english.asp?p=vorur&f=3&val=1There are a couple of articles about the fly & how to fish it on the site as well. I'd like to know more about the Apa - never heard of it.

Thanks for the info chaps, the Apa is a fly that has taken a lot of fish at Aboyne and is used almost exclusively by visiting Scandinavian anglers. I'm still to find out any info about it.

Just found some info out on the Apa in my news letter:
"All of the 5 fish were taken on the Apa fly - a bit like a Collie Dog, but with monkey rather than dog hair"
Sounds like its just the Scandinavian term for these patterns.

I have heard mention of scandanavian long wings, which ive never seen. maybe one of you has: the Alta Ghost, Skunk, and Ivan the Terrible.
Ive seen paterns called the svava and svorsk, which are similar to the sunray/collie.
ring any bells
