Seen as though this is a salmon forum i thought i'd put this in the lounge.
I've heard several comments recently from people saying "this used to be a great trout river but the grayling have taken over and forced them out"
I have also heard stories of clubs getting coarse fishing lads in to catch and cull the grayling to give the trout a better chance.
Is it that grayling are just more successful than trout or do they have a serious impact on trout populations - does anyone have a view on this?

From a mainly chalk stream river fishing point of veiw ,the grayling is a wonderful asset ,truly wild self sustaining, sporting challenge and far preferable to the stocked over large monsters that sadly populate many of southern englands chalkstreams . On other rivers I couldnt comment as I know far less about them ! I really do love my grayling fishing ,it comes at the time of year when I am most under pressure at work ,and gets me on to beats which go for stupid money in the mayfly season!
