The old question. Another Kelt: Easy when you see them together. At the start of the season there are always plenty of kelts around. Please ensure that you can tell the difference between a kelt and a fresh fish; it is illegal to kill a kelt in Scotland. Kelts though silver in colour do not have the bright irradiance of a fresh fish, the head looks too big for the rest of the body, there are no shoulders since the body is just about parallel with the head, the fins are tatty, the vent enlarged, and there are usually gill maggots - any of the above suggest a kelt. I'm sure some of you have more wrinlkles, I know Graham Ritchie just looks them in the eye, if they look down they are kelts.
