Well done to the young Scot who has just humped the no4 in the world.
What a player he is turning out to be.
Sorry it's a Tennis / Fishing household.

Still needs work on his serve, volleys, and general strength/physique although the latter will come with age. Unfortunately he arrives in the Federer era which will be interesting but ultimately may prove a step too far in the next few seasons at least. Still anything to erase "Tiger Tim" from the memory

Hornet He's just a big girlies blouse that doesn't have the temprement to go far. Suppose it'll be Murray's Mountain instead of Henman's Hillock during Wimbledon this year. Count me OUT!!!! ibm59 ( and yes, I am a jock)

He's an exceptional talent who has the all-round game to go all the way. Reaching No4 in the world ranking is a fantastic achievment in such a short period of time. Experience now at playing at the highest level and in the latter stages of tournaments will determine whether he has what it takes to win a major. He has all the strokes...no doubt.
ibm59, when was the last time Scotland produced such a talent??

I can't help but get annoyed when youngsters , in any pro sport ,are praised to the heavens at the start but get torn to pieces when they don't reach the heady heights expected of them by the press , tv and the rest of the media circus. Just look at Button , Coulthard , Henman , Rusedski( sorry for the spelling)and numerous others. Didn't make the top spot &never will. Hill & Mansell got there by the skin of their teeth. Don't want to get drawn into the nationality argument , I'll even speak to a Welshman ;D, but as far as Scottish talent is concerned wasn't there a very successful ladies curling team in the not so distant past,Sam Torrance captaining the European Ryder cup team to victory & Jim Clark & Jackie Stewart , both world champions a wee bit furter back. Leave the youngsters alone , all you media guys . They'll do much better without your so called knowledgeable commentary!!!!! It doesn't take much imagination to figure out where my interests lie after fishing, guitar& and trying my best to reduce the European red wine lake. Mine's a large Barolo. Cheers. ps Are you sure Mr Murray isn't British? ?

I agree about the british media...... they're a joke. However Andy Murray's rise to semi-stardom is something that evey Scot should be proud of. OK, he's not won anything major yet, but he's a talent and great to watch. Scotland has never had a decent tennis player...ever, well none that I can remember And although be maybe british in then eyes of the TV pundits, he's scottish by nationality and he not shy at telling them that. I'm not anti-british or anything....don't shoot me

The guy has great talent but I agree that media hype can destroy great talent
Take for instance Gordon Sherry, one of the best amateur golfers ever, hyped up by the media big time, but sadly after turning professional was never heard of again
Shame

ibm59, when was the last time Scotland produced such a talent?? Well this forum has a few world beaters who are Scottish, or does waving a line above your head and casting a piece of wool further than anyone else in the world not count. There are a lot more fly fishers than tennis players. Wave a ribbon above your head in a nice way and you could be an Olympic champion!

ibm59 I think you are not getting the picture here. He is without question a major talent that has come up through the LTA Junior ranks with great promise then exploded onto the pro tour. His rise to a top twenty player has been nothing short of phenomenal. When a young Mr Federer started out his temperament was shocking as he was breaking racquet's left right and centre. Swearing, poor court etiquette etc, simply not a future vision of what he is about to become which is probably the best player of all time. Hendman was a good top 10 player who really did not fall into this category until he was in his late 20's and for a along time punched above his weight. Don't get me wrong he was a good player who i liked to watch and support. Murray on the other hand has hit the ground running and oozes pure talent. Hopefully under the guidance of his new coach Brad Gilbert and his strong willed mother Judy he will be kept on the straight and narrow to maybe become the best tennis player this country has ever produced. The media i think so far has been fair on him apart from making a load of tosh about him showing his Scottish side when at Wimbledon, so what! he is leading the charge of a group of young Scots that have began to start making a name for themselves in an extremely difficult and lonely sport. The main reason i think this way is because i have toured up and down the country with my daughter who competed for over five years and i know just how hard it is to get a sniff of where he is at the moment. I and my other two are fans of the young man and i hope he reaches his full potential and becomes one of the greats as he has all the shots. PS, It has been Murray Mount for the past two Wimbledon's Hornet

... when was the last time Scotland produced such a talent?? Hmmm, this got me thinking: Peter Nicol en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Nicol (OK - he defected to England .... but he counts) David Coulthard - OK, OK... he lives in Monaco but he comes from Scotland ;D Dario Franchitti - he really is from Scotland - honest My interest in motor racing could dominate any further entries.... but safe to say none of a certain 1st XIV are on my current list

Hornet , don't mis-understand me. I'm all for encouraging youngsters in any sport but find it painful to watch their dreams being shattered at the hands of our sporting pundits. Constant criticism will damage the confidence of even the finest talent with obvious results. To get back to Mr Murray. Every year I have the pleasure of decanting my far better other half off to Wimbledon where she can sit getting a sore backside eating overpriced strawberries and gawp at the pretty boys in shorts. She's been doing this for more years than she'll admit to and watches tennis at every opportunity. She also plays occasionally in the summer , not a pretty sight I can assure you , and could quite rightly be considered something of an amateur expert. She thinks Oor Andy is a complete and utter loudmouth tw"t.

We all thought that about MacEnroe and then Agassi. He has some passion and likes to win. Personally I prefer to see and watch someone like that than some boring fart who looks like a public school boy.
