Glisters1,
Buy a car with a ski hatch. Very convenient for carrying rods "in the boot" under cover. For some reason quite a few manufacturers have trouble making decent 4 piece rods.

Just leave the rods set up on the roof, if you live in a respectable area no one will touch them.

Like Speyside Malcolm? A few years ago there was a spate of thefts from vehicles parked on the side of the road to Advie. If you were using the rod they just pinched the roof clamps!

The Ski slot in the boot works perfect for me 4 salmon tubes thru a lot more trouty/spinning rods well hidden under coats or sweaters and your fairly safe even in Highbury which is well south of the spey !!
