Hi all Myself and Mrs Z are going to be in Aviemore for a weekend on the 15/16th September. So I was wondering about getting some reasonably priced fishing. Mrs Z prefers a more civilised beat, preferably with easy access to a toilet. I prefer a beat with a chance of a fish I have never fished up this way before and any advice would be welcome.

www.fishspey.co.ukWester Elchies has a toilet and a chance of a fish. Carron has a super hut and toilet and probably a fish as well. The Craig has both toilets and fish.

hi zeolite, i have fished at grantown in september a few times, the river has plenty fish in it but 99% are coloured, its £45 a day £105 for 3 day permit £180 for a week (week being a 7 day permit not 6 as most other places) also a week permit you can fish down to slop thomas on the upper castle grant water but we usually just fish down to the long pool. on a day and the 3 day ticket you can fish from broomhall bridge to the new bridge which is about 4 miles plus you can fish the dulnain which can be good given water, on the day ticket water the 2 most productive pools are probably the dulnain mouth ant tarric mor, these pools just hold the fish. anyway hope this is of some help. the permits you get from mortimors on the high street in grantown on spey. you can get details from fishspey website click on grantown and then the assosiated webpage you will find all you need to know.
cheers scotty.

Thanks for the replies chaps. £70+ a day is a bit over the budget WG but I have had a good look at the Grantown assoc website. Superb photos BTW Anyone know what the Aviemore stretch is like?

I have fished the Aviemore water a few times when I was younger but its not that good for fly, I would make the 15 minute drive to Grantown but you wont get on the best fly water (upper castle grant) unless you take a week ticket. The association water on the Findhorn is only 45 mins away and the Deveron is about 1hrs travel and well worth a go. I was staying in Coylumbride last week and made the trip to the Findhorn for 2 days fishing which was good value and some of the pools are nice to fish, didn't land any fish although i did practice long distance releasing.

You could also try Abernethy Association they have 6 miles in between Grantown & Avimore. Day Tickets last 24hrs and cost £40 available from Allens tackle shop at Boat of Garten some excellent fly water value for money.

just home from grantown, the water has dropped again after a wee rise, but the river is full of fish mostly coloured but some fresh, the blue skies and lowish water made it pretty hard but i managed a wee grilse and a seatrout. ;D . it is worth a go zeolite.
cheers scotty.

the dulnain mouth always holds fish, i got my fish at the auchernackburn pool, tarric mor holds fish also, if you are on the fly a full floater or mabye a 5" sinkin tip, if you are (dare i say it) spinning the rappalas work very well, blue and silver or black and silver, i got my fish on a blue and silver rappala and the seatrout took a blck and silver flying c. have fun
cheers scotty.

Todays rain will push the river up, you may well do OK.
Please do not spin with Rapalas in September

I prefer to use the fly anyway although I might try a floating devon if the water is high.

rappalas are ok to spin in september as they are at any time of the year, just bend in the middle hooks completely so as they can not cause damge to the fish.

Well it was a fantastic sunny day but I didn't get a fish. I started at the Grantown bridge and walked up the right bank. The water was fairly peaty but clearing and dropping so i put on a sink tip and a PBP cascade. no joy at the first pool (McLeods?) and walked up to a pool with a huge rock. I saw a young lad dropping a fish and it turned out to be Blair. It wasn't a small rapala he was using Since everyone else seemed to be spinning I made up my spinning rod with a Kercock style floating Devon and tried that for a while. Worked my way upstream past Tarric Mor and no doubt waded through a few lies. had a great day but nae fush!
