Stu have you heard any news on the fishing on the Gaula as I going there on the 24th for my first trip abroad after salmon so any advice would be great. I am fishing just up from Storen. Darren

Darren,Gaula is a long way from here so cant help to much, just seen on their site that fish are being caught round Storen averaging between 8 an 9kilos,yesterday there was one on the river 20kilos,if the fishing is poor try the local women

Stuart Having seen your posts, I am feeling the urge to come back to Norway again (next year) if someone said you had a 1 week window of opportunity to fish, which week would you choose and on which rivers. (No pressure there then ) I hope you don't mind me grilling you. ;D

Myself i would like to fish in Laerdal, which week i dont know,or try for something big in Alta, there you must put yourself in a lottery and hope for the best Weeks window, short notice?difficult one, that needs some looking into, dont know much about the rivers in the rest of the country, where was you thinking?

Hi stuart I have been looking at the Laerdal in my new "bible"!! Says it is very pretty and not cheap assuming you can get on, approx 1500 up to 2500 NOK per day. I can see the attraction for you. Am i right in thinking that you will be wanting to go for size rather quantity?

Not cheap i know,i go to catch fish not particularly big fish,Laerdal is alovely place from what i have seen.Iff you are looking for grilse you cant do much better than here or Mandal, but can be some ammount of people fishing at holiday times, last year the end of august in to september was good, bigger fish come in through september

Stuart, do the Norwegian school holiday weeks affect numbers of people on the water as it does here? Is there sufficient time at the end of the season to have the river less populated?

Think schools go back next week, its not just Norwegies that fish during the hols, many people travel from Denmark,Germany,France Iff i remember right september you get more serious fishers around, that are not throwing everything but the kitchen sink in,but thats to be seen

Seems to be an invasion of danes this week.Just looked at the catches for last year, the next 2 weeks have the best returns, that explains that.Although there seems fewer fish around this year, seems the case in many rivers over here, but that will be seen come October, when the stats are released Returns for last season were 4104 fish, for 6850 kilos for Bjerkreim and with the lower part of the river was 11816 kilos total, the lower part being called Tengs which runs out to sea at Egersund
