Regarding some modern dressed flies,IE pot b p,etc,,, these flies seem to be very heavily dressed,,i know the materials in these patterns are different and do tone down when in the water,,but in the term "don't over dress your flies"these new patterns are IMO overly dressed,,,would you agree that whether overly dressed or not ,they'll still catch fish, hence you would fish a well dressed fly in heavier water.

I tend to go with lighter tied flies. Even PBPs can be done lightly by not tying the front hackle as you often find on shop versions. I posted a PBP in the Scottish Rivers section with just the body hackle and then the JC. Personally, over-dressed flies don't swim well for me.

Salmonking Totally agree, most comercially tied flies are overdressed, designed to catch the fisher and not the fish. Will post some of my offerings shortly.
Sloggi I like my PBP with a single or two turn hackle at the head with the hackle palmered down the body. Nothing expensive Chinese capes are best.

I find the palmered hackle is enough hackle With the JC over the top and a cone at the front too
