Can anyone tell me how the Lower Spey is fishing? Obviously the water temps have risen and the river is dropping, so are fish moving through the bottom beats more quickly now?
I have a few days next week at Orton, so interested to know what I could expect (-:
cheers

That's the kinda news I like to hear ((-: I won't get too carried away as this usually leads to a disappointment. Sounds promising though.
Are the temps high enough for floater and tips now?

Read the guy from Fishspey he talks the talk. Pack the sunblock, temperatures here 22.5. The lower spey is fishing well.......................even Orton managed to land 2 fish on Tuesday, many other contacts. The big 2 are fishing well.

Cheers for the wee update. Next weeks weather looks more promising....cloud, light rain and lower temps, so better for fishing.
Orton could have a big week ((-:

Best to be a lucky fisher than a good one......where have I heard that before?? Well, It's about time I had some good luck then )-:
Fished hard for most of last week on Orton for no reward. Our party landed a few fish at the start of the week (but not me), but from wednesday onwards we hardly saw a fish, let alone catch one. Very disappointing.
Many theories were being thrown on the table.......
The bulk of the run is now past. The barometric pressure dropped dramatically and stayed low all week. No fresh fish coming in (with the low pressure dominating ) to replace old fish, which had moved on with rise in water. and so on...
I think points 2 and 3 are correct but would be interested to know if the bottom beats on the Spey are fishing better this week. This would help confirm that our week was just a combination of bad luck, bad weather and no fresh fish which wouldn't normally be the case in other years.
On a brighter note, the stand-in ghillie was invited to have a cast on Saturday night. Infact he had 5 and hooked and landed a 15lb licer. I was overjoyed for him!!!!?? ((-:
I was impressed with Cooperie however. Great Pool.

Bulk of run past..........I think not www.fishspey.co.uk/pages/catches.asp?dom=FishSpeyI had contact with 5 fish today at Upper Arndilly...........ended up with 1 See James "Weegie's" report the fish were just stomping through with the lift in water.

Willie, that's why I said points 2 and 3 were my thoughts at the time. Unfortunately when you're fishing and seeing and touching nothing you have no idea of whether fish are going through or not....no sign!!! It would appear that beats up to Aberlour were all suffering the same way, according to the tackle shop. I understand the fish running up river with the lift in water, but what happened to the licers behind them? ? Do they go through the bottom beats without stopping when you have some water (not a lot) and high temps?

They were catching fish with long tailed lice at Carron last week. D1ck Turpin was in his usual cheery mood then?
