The salmon catch for the whole season was 11,378, cf 9,700 in 2005, & 9,800 in 2004. Catch & release rate was 71%, cf 68% in 2005. Just the best C & R rate yet.
With which all are delighted.
Less pleasing are the sea trout figures of 3,286 in 2006, cf 2,100 in 2005, & 2,800 in 2004. We have just started a sea trout conservation policy, and the release rate has only increased from 40% to 49%, which is a little disappointing. Although the catch is up on last year, it has been around 4,000 in several recent years.
The Spey Fishery Board's Conservation policies are to be unchanged for 2007.
