Am fishing Rothes for a few days at the end of the week. Never been here before, advice on how best to fish the beat and its pools at this height would be most welcome.

Hey Sagecaster, Not at the river this week, but the river levels look good with some slow snow melt and nice sunny days. Have a look at the fish Spey web site www.fishspey.co.uk starting to see some fish on the move so you should have a good couple of days. Gordon.

The anglers fishing this week last year had 27 fish between 3 rods, so you have a lot to live up to. Hot spots, Creakie, of course, Juntion, Burn Mouth and Long Pool. I would avoid Gene Tree. Mike is an excellent gillie and will keep you right. I would use an intermediate and a Willie Gunn tube and wham it out and let in come round.
