Looks like the much needed rise in water brought a few fresh fish into the river. Although very few fish have been seen running through, they are certainly keen to have a look at the flies. We have had quite a frustrating week so far, having lost 5 fish, fortunately 4 have held on and our rods caught 3 today. All the fish have had evidence of Sea-lice. One of our lady guests on her 13th annual trip to Speyside caught her first ever Salmon and what a smile ! ;D Wester Elchies opposite have also done pretty well this week and landed a nice 23lb fish earlier in the week. Aberlour AA also had a good start and had at least 6 on Mon-Tue, however now the water has dropped below the 'spinning mark' only the real anglers will be out !

Is it easy to get day tickets on AA water or do you have to book in advance?

Madkeen,
You can book weekly tickets in advance but I believe that day tickets are on a first come - first served basis therefore if the water is in good fettle get to the shop for 9am.
Dan,
As you know, the Spey Fishery board recommend that the 1st, 3rd etc fish are retuned but I stress to my guests that this should be is the bare minumum. Unfortunately a fair few of the Aberlour AA members view the policy differently and rountinely kill their second fish throughout the season, their view being that they are following the fishery board policy verbatim. In addition there are more than your fair share of spinners and often the fish in sequence to be returned are too deeply hooked and bleeding. So in answer to your question - in my opinion, not nearly enough are being retuned!

Hi Just to add to what Jock said, if 6 weekly permits are out no day permits are available, so check first or you may be queuing for permits that dont exist.
Cheers Pudsey
