Has anyone fished the Arndilly water, and if so what were the best methods and how did you get on?

I have fished Lower Arndilly a few times and it is in my opinion without any doubt one of the top 3 beats on the Spey. There are 7 rods, it is fly only and is fully booked throughout the season. Unless you personally know someone who is a lead tennant, there is unfortunately very little likelihood of you getting any fishing there. There are however 2 Arndilly beats, upper and lower. I've attached a link for Upper Arndilly, however again I doubt whether the is any availability other than very early or very late season. Hope this is of some use to you Yorkshire Esk - Tight Lines www.salmonfishings.com/spey_intro.htm

Has anyone fished the Arndilly water, and if so what were the best methods and how did you get on? I have only ever had one blank day there, and I still have caught more fish than the number of days I have fished there. Getting on; try looking for some dead men's shoes. I have fished Lower Arndilly a few times and it is in my opinion without any doubt one of the top 3 beats on the Spey. Jock, I agree that Arndilly is in the top three, like Ashley-Cooper I think Wester Elchies is up there, which is the last one? Kinermony?

Alas Malcolm, as you know full well Kinermony falls well short of the mark, however I hear that their exceptional Ghillie is steadily climbing up the list !
Yes Wester Elchies is a fantastic beat and I am very envious of Sam's job, but it would be just outside my 'Top 3'
Quite a few fish around at present and I hear that you may be coming for a cast yourself this coming week; I look forward to a visit from the professionals and will make sure I have plenty room in the catch return log !
Joking aside, we really are blessed with a truly majestic river and the opportunity of a cast on any beat would be highly recommended. The local Aberlour AA is terrific value at £20 per day and at this height of water, there is a very realistic chance of catching a Spey Salmon on the fly.
Arndilly - well it's nice to dream !

I've been lucky enough to fish Arndilly for 3 days in September for the last three years, and will be back there this year too. It has some lovely water; Cobble Pot and Back of the Bog are probably the best pools, and certainly are my favourites. As a result of some rearrangement by the owner it is now double bank for almost its entire length (only sharing the bottom pool (Long Pool) with Rothes), which as older maps of the river show, was not previously the case. It will fish in high water and low.
I think it's one of the beats that is consistently productive right through the season. It's high enough up the river that the early fish don't run straight through, but low enough that there's still a chance of a fresh fish even at the end of September.

Who has the opposite bank to UPPER Arndilly?

Easter Elchies, owned by Mr W. Robertson and availability through Bidwells - if you have a pair of dead man's shoes.
Said Mr Robertson, a unique and gracious fly fisherman, also has the majority share of Upper Arndilly.
Both beats a delight to fish, but marginally better on the Easter Elchies side.
