I'd really appreciate any advice on the upper tay beats(e.g. Derculich and Findynate) - when is it worth fishing? do fish hang around or shoot through early season? Best in high or low water? Lots of fishing available and reasonable prices but is it worth it?

Donnie I have fished Findynate a few tim9es and its a pleasant enough piece of water but your chances of a fish are slim too say the least. For the money you would pay you could have a day on Kercock etc with a fair chance of a fish.If its the upper Tay your after your best bet is Upper Farleyer or Bolfracks both get there share of springers April/May time.Fished Farleyer often enough and nice fly water and some good pools(give lower crathes a good shot). I can vouch for Farleyer too. Lovely fly water, better than Bolfracks IMO. May is probably the best month and it is reasonably priced and lightly rodded for the amount of fishing available.

Thanks for that. These beats are right on my doorstep but I'll leave it til later in the season. Anyone know what Logierait is like? (Newton Pool looks HELLISH!!). It seems to be fished quite often, even this early on. Hope I'm not missing out on anything?!

Donnie the newton pool is a very slow pool that i would think lends itself to spinning(55ft deep ) although at the neck of the pool you have about half a dozen casts that fish with the fly.Maybe worth a shot just now as the Kinnaird beats have had a couple of early fish. Alan.

Donnie, just go and fish logierait,i'tll cost nothing for you as a member of Perth and District.no need to book.Just fall out of the house and you are there !. Try a Kynoch Killer type lure hung out in the run at the top of the beat,I know that works well. There are two members who pretty much live up there and will not be keen at all to let you in,but I'm sure you can handle that diplomatically, but sex and travel gets the results. !

Still waiting for membership!! How long does it normally take? Desperate to get back to Kercock but if I keep going as a "TOFF" I'll end up skint......(Unless I stop tipping of course)

Edradynate / Clochfoldich and Derculich beats are extremely attractive , easily covered with a 13' fly rod and fairly priced albeit short in length. The Edradynate water has some particularly attractive fly water just below the Church Pool. Fyndynate, in my opinion really has just one major cast and that is the Boat Pool. I fancy these waters best when the grilse have arrived (July / August). Church Pool can hold a fair head of fish in the right conditions. Agree Farleyer is bonnie water also particularly the Junction Pool. Hope that helps
