I have never fished it myself, but speaking to the ghillie on stobhall he was saying that it has really improved over the last few years as a spring beat with a good chance of fish.

Lady Pool and Rock pools are worth a cast with the fly (maybe Carrot Beds) but fair to say it is not classic fly water. Excellent beat in extremely high water conditions eg, when every other beat is fished off !! Being a hotel you can find yourself sharing the water, at times, with a load of other guys (best warn you).

Fished this beat last week - ghillies couldnt have been more helpful and found the other anglers extremely chatty and friendly too! Rock Pool is a classic deep drop off leading into a rocky 'vee' but the water was a bit high and still v cold.
I broke the habit of a lifetime and threw some cutlery about on my dads old spinning rod, but even that couldnt ensnare a fish (impressed though how an enticing a rapala looks underwater!)
Yeah very enjoyable day, lovely surroundings, very convenient for the hotel bar and not too hoyty-toyty so yes I will be back..
But the question is,,, when oh when will I be graced with another fish (no takes since last August and I am getting desperate)!!

I haven't fished it but I see it regularly and it doesn't excite me. The catch statistics are for both bank and boat together and the boats are out whoreling (or whatever) every day. Draw your own conclusions........... Not exactly cheap either!

Yeah harling with 4 rods out the back seems a bit pedestrian to say the least. Having said that the overall catch returns arent too shabby (plenty are caught from the bank) and I thought you got a lot of help from the ghillies, plenty of space to fish and you cant beat an ice cold Magners after a hard mornings speycasting..
Cheap and good fishing, isnt that an oxymoron like good football and England national team?

Is this beat now the best on the river in terms of catches?
