i am staying in Glen Lyon in August. Is the river Lyon worth £20-30 a day to fish? And is early morning/late evening the best time to fish it in August?

It looks to be worth the money but I've never fished it. I'm asking around at the moment as it's fairly close to home. Certainly saw some beautiful water when driving up Glen Lyon.

Don't forget the Dochart. Good grilse water in August if water and there are always the big old springers that have been lying around since April. Auchlyne at £10 a day and some 8 miles of river bank is hard to beat for value and scenery. Does not appear on fishscotland. You can get permits from Caravan Park between Killen and Crianlarich or from George the keepers bungalow at Auchlyne.

Meggernie, Ro-Ro, Innerwick and Chesthill are all worth a cast. Early or late ?? - depends on the water levels but it would be fair to say at that time of year the dawn / dusk approach would be best. The hydro often release 'freshets' from Loch Lyon which, although short, can often produce periods of spectacular activity. Try to contact Bill Drysdale (keeper) at Innerwick Estates for further advice. £20 - 30 is fair IMO. Hope that helps a little. Yours aye STip
