Sprouston is I believe owned by the same family who own the Junction- The Millers? But don't quote me on that- Especially in a Court of Law..

I think it's actually owned by a company called Heritage Fisheries, which in turn is a subsidiary of Harris & Sheldon, who also happen to own Hardys. H&S was owned and/or run by Jim Miller; as well as the Junction they also had one of the lower Tay beats (can't remember which), and Cadora and Wyesham on the lower Wye; the latter were sold in the past few years following Jim Miller's death. www.harris-sheldon.co.uk/

Colin,
Are you sure they took the beat through Strutt and Parker-if they did they would have paid up the 15-25% deposit and the remainder is billed 6-8 weeks before fishing commences and all fishing has to be paid for in full?
There is a strict tenancy agreement that is crystal clear that there are no refunds if the river is in full spate etc and certainly no alternative week is offered as a replacement by way of compensation and I doubt that a November week would be offered unless (a) they hit it right the day one became available (and every cast yields a 20lber as well as the band playing "Believe it if you Will") or (b) it was offered as a re-let by Strutts/Tweedline for a client in whose name the annual let still stands.
The price difference is also pretty serious as well-like an extra couple of grand or so a rod.
Did your unfortunate pals pitch up and were turned away by Davie and Craig, the boatmen?Presumably this is what you mean by "put off". If they had true "title" to the weeks tenancy from Strutts they would have more paperwork than you can shake a stick at-if they were sub-letting from someone who is now clearly not a mate, they won't have a shred of Newbury's finest letterhead and are stuffed as far as recompense from Strutts and Harris and Sheldon's holding company are concerned.
I cannott believe that Strutt's are pissing them about like this-the Miller's would string them up and they let Junction as well as Upper Hendersyde so have a pretty serious reputation to keep up along over 5 miles or so of unbroken river.
There are however one or two "fishing agents" who operate on Tweed and who specialise in "all inclusive" packages-which includes accommodation, dinner, rod hire even down to tips for the boatmen. If they took it from them then I have to say that I am still surprised as these lads like return customers and many of their customers like to fish prime beats without any hassle in arrangement.
I suspect, without further facts to hand, that this is the sort of punter through whom they have taken the fishing and the only recourse is at law with the person to whom they paid the cheque.
I know who 3 of the April parties are as I have at one time or another been a very welcome benefactor of days there and as my weeks with Ronnie above them overlap I see the same characters there nearly every year as well as other rods from other April weeks on Sprouston when I'm in the area on other beats-so far as I know the teams of rods have been relatively unchanged these last three years at least.
In any event November is let year on year to the same guys and drop outs are as rare as hens teeth and are usually filled from a list of "known" rods who are on a waiting list and have done their penance in what passes for Narnia in the back of Davie's boat in early Feb so having a week made available to them at the back end and then being "put off" beggars belief.
Pm me for my number if your mates want to discuss it and I will certainly draw Strutts attention to it as I have to call them tomorrow.
I sincerely hope they get it sorted out,and that the letting agents and the owner are not at fault.as it's a lot of money your mates are out of pocket if they had booked th week and their accomodation etc etc.
