I've just booked a day on Sunderland Hall in mid October - can anyone offer any advice or comments about this beat?

Well Magpie had some success, well done! Anyone else been out on Mr.Smyly's waters? It has been low and probably tough times from what I have heard. Remarkable how well catches seem to have sustained themselves these last few weeks given the lack of water. Anyone any idea of the general state of the fish being landed? I notice most days big fish are reported, often well upriver for the low water; are these earlier run fish, or new entrants? I am looking forward to the w/c 5 Nov when I will give the Beat my best attention. You never know at this time of year, that's why I'll be using my 23lbs Seaguar leader, tight lines to all those fishing through the Back-end.

Sunderland Hall fishes 2 syndicate Rods, 2 let Rods and sometimes 1 House Rod, each day. In other words, Sunderland Hall fishes 5 Rods. This includes just over a mile of the main Tweed stem, and about the initial 0.4m of the River Ettrick. It's fishings neighbour Bole side, Fairnilee, Nest etc. The neighbouring Ettrick fishings can be good too, again the Ettrick has had a season of major returning runs of Fish, which can only bode well for the future. S.Hall responds to a long-term relationship, tight lines and screaming reels......

I will be on Fairnilee 1-3 Nov chucking hairy tobies in your direction. I was in a state of depression until I had a wee look at Metcheck.......a good flood is forecast for the weekend so it should be ok for when I start on Thursday. I now have to start mentally preparing myself for a trip so close to the border.
