hi folks, i was just wondering if you guys used nets, i do all the time for trout and salmon, notless mesh of course, just i see alot of salmon anglers who dont carry one, think they just try to beach them or tail them, this is ok if the river bank permits it, but most of the rivers i fish this is not possible. so a net is a must for me.

If an angler wishes to return fish, beaching should not be an option. Cutting the leader would probably give a better chance of survival. If there is no net, tail the fish, but never lift it from the water by the tail, as this can cause damage (to the fish, that is!). If you are returning it, and must remove it from the water, a knotless net or cradling the fish after initially tailing it is the only way to go.
