Well thats the end of an era for me, i said in another thread that the levy's would be the death nail of assocation fishing, and thats the way its turning out, the levy for Abernethy and Aviemore is around £10,000 this year. The Assocation has not made a profit for the last 3yrs, and now has no money left, the members may have to give some of the fishing back to the estate (no idea what they will do with it). And after 12yrs i am now out of a job, i finish work at the end of November, after 12yrs on the river. So don't speak to me about Spey district fishery board levy,s . Gordon.

Sorry to here that SG. I've only been salmon fishing for about 3 seasons now. How do they work out the levy's. I'm a member of Aberdeen & District Angling Association and fish the Dee on a regular basis. Any idea how much the levy's are on the dee? Do they pay a levy on fish killed or on all fish caught?

Hi Jollyrodger, the answer to that is a mystery, in one year we have less people fishing and less fish caught the same amount of river bank and the levy goes up £2,500 the next year, i think its based on a number and then doubled, and thats how its based, i can only speak for the Spey, Just spoke to the guy that looks after the fishing at Grantown on Spey and there levy is now around £18,000 a year and thats just the levy, not including rent. I am sorry to here that.
On a more general point - how many members do the club have and what is the yearly cost of a season ticket.? By the look of the catch returns on the Spey website- many a person may be willing to pay considerable sums to fish your water.- obviously not your own members.!!.
CAN YOU ALTER THE CONSTITUTION TO WIDEN THE CATCHMENT FOR MEMBERS?. I have never fished your water but the catch returns look mouthwatering - especially the sea-trout. Presumably an EGM will be held to try and sort out the situation?

Hi Frank, The Sea-trout fishing has been good this year, and i think Abernethy is the best sea trout fishing on the Spey,as for the constitution of the Assocation. that is for my Boss to deal with, and he has tried, there was just no option but to pay me off, and make the job seasonal. But if its seatrout fishing your looking for , give it a go June/July time but under the rules you must stay with in the parish of Abernethy, (Boat of Garten, Nethybridge ,Carr-bridge ect), if not you could be refused a day ticket. Gordon.

Hi Springer, Thanks for that, as for the fishery board i'm sure there is audited accounts available. And like you said its a hard act to balance between charging to much and trying to get by, i feel my boss's have done all they can for me, and they really do alot of work for nothing. I don't think the best seatrout fishing on the spey should have to struggle to stay afloat, or run at a loss for so many years, but that the way it is. Its not all bad news, i'm off fishing in British Columbia for six weeks, and plan to work there next year. ;D Gordon.
