I have in the past given some consideration to turning up on opening day but as my fingers are not insured against frost bite thought better of it.
Has anyone fished the "town water"? Is it any good? How many rods per day etc. How does it fish in spring (the town water that is).
It's not a million miles from a possible early season venue for 2007 so just thought I'd ask!

I can be very good- especially from july. You can watch the way the local guys fish just above the tide- dibbling the hot spots as the fish come off the tide.
It can be fine in the spring if the water is low- although its a while ago- I caught 2 April springers on my first visit- using small shrimp flies.
Check the village website, i think it is helmsdale.org- its always bang up to date on whats going on.

It is quite easy to get on the Helmsdale early in season. £25.00/day or there by. Two years ago we were fishing the bottom of Lower 2 when the first fish of the season was caught on the top of Lower 1, what a difference a set of rapids make.
