Because I'm a bit of a tackle tart it will have to be a new double hander. I already have a Greys GRX 14ft. #9/10 which is a nice summer rod. I also have a B & W Norway 15ft. #9/10. I'm looking for something in=between those two but what I just haven't decided on as yet I quite like the Greyflex M2 15ft #10 double hander! What do you think!

Real men do not think about Cgristmas till the week before. I've always found that a carefully thought out strategy is far more sucsessful in achieving the desired results Real men know how to get what they want ,especially when it comes to dealing with women at christmas time a little thought and effort at this time can pay dividends throughout the fishing year .

JAD - would have thought the daiwa altmor 15'2" would be a good bet on special at turrif tackle just now (river deveron), reduced from £495 to £300. I fish with original altmor 15'6" #9-11 good for summer and back end. For low water summer I use the hardy elite 13'4" #9. Looking for a heavier spring rod though and thinking the new scott mckenzie signature 16ft would be the one - anyone got any thoughts ?

This is a difficult one, however I reckon what I really need is some sort of case or cabinet for keeping all my fly tying material.
Currently I keep my materials in a few wooden boxes and some biscuit tins.
Can anyone suggest a 'proper' fly tying case/cabinet...??

Stuart few years ago i got a wooden cabinet in ikea of all places it is 400mm long 200mm deep and stands 300mm high ,it has one full length drawer on the bottom two half length drawers in the middle and three drawers along the top .I can't remember the exact price but it was under a tenner at the time .I have found it perfect for keeping most of my fly tying stuff .Maybe they are still selling them . hope this helps

Colin, Thank you, a foot is easy to imagine it is the same length as eh a foot 300mm sounds huge.

25mm is approx 1 inch 100mm is approx 4inches 200mm is approx 8inches 300mm is approx 12 inches Not that difficult really The entire construction industry has been using the metric system(sizes always quoted in millimetres) for the last twenty + years that i've been there so it's not exactly a new concept .

It might not be a new concept but it is not exactly user friendly. An inch is about the same length as the top section of your thumb A foot is about the same as your foot A yard is a longish pace.
A mm is a stupid little measurement that you can hardly see.

I find it perfectly user friendly and so i presume does most of the manufacturing and industry in britain and europe as they chose to use it

I am wishing for some cash to put towards some new waders as mine have been used and abused for 4 seasons and now leak like f*ck.
I have been using the metric system all my life (except for weighing fish as its much harder to catch a double figure fish in KG) and have used it 95% of the time at work but now we are doing work for the Americans so we are going back to using imperial or English as they call it. Some kn*b in Brussels will probably hit us with a huge fine for daring to "go backwards" which is fine as long as they dont want paying in bloody euros.

Me thinks we're drifting somewhat off the main topic thread - unless any of you may be hinting your looking for a set of conversion tables for your X-mas !! It's time for us all to face the times we're in - lets face it, we don't buy a mars bar and hand over a thrupnney bit or half a crown and get a sixpence and two bob in our change - so what's the problem in linear dimension ? For that matter why do we refer to the fish we catch as say "a10 lbr" - why shouldn't it be a 22 kgr ?
