Hi All, I am new to the site. So far a very good read & informative site. picked up the forum from the Speypages. I am currently based on the south coast of england but I am back home to Glasgow for the weekend & was planning a day on the Nith. I have had reports & pic's of the water & its looking very high at the moment. Is it likeley to drop off quickley for tomorrow given little or no rain? I am keen to cast a line for salmon before the seasons out. I fish fly only is it worth a go or will it be a wash out Your replies much appreciated. Thanks G

Hi Simmo, welcome to the site, it is a cracking site with a good bunch of fisherpeople I dont know if you've looked on the Sepa river heights or the www.rivernithfishings.co.uk site or not but it looks pretty grim for fly fishing mate. It is beleived the river was in the car park in dumfries last night There is one or two Nith men on this site that would be able to let you know more accurately. What about the upper Tweed or Whiteadder? Hope you find the forum as good and friendly as I do. ATB Gary

Macsalmo, Thanks for the speedy reply. I did check out the SEPA site & the river seems to drop fairly quickly after high water. I was hoping the rain would stay off & it would be fishable tomorrow. Maybe not. I will check out the upper Tweed or the Whiteadder as another possibility. If I don't wet a line this weekend it will be roll on 2007. Thanks Again G

hi simmo, was out on the whiteadder tday, looks like i picked the wrong day(on my beat anyway)never saw a fish mind catch 1. i think yesterday would have been a better bet, river at 2ft and falling,it was 1ft 5 this morn, which is 4or5 ins shy for where i fish, water is still falling, but im going for 1 last shot tmorrow further down at allanton, that has a trib(blackadder)which tops it up,but a lot of the fish seem to be well up now,so im not that confident, a fitting end to a season really,my poorest on record, im only going as its on my doorstep,so if yr traveling a distance id prob pass goin to whiteadder,,you never know though.

The Hutton Mills estate - lovely water. Certainly would want to fish it again , but when conditions and the time of the year are more favourable

hi,hutton mills is best fished in the spring,as its a lower beat, the fish just bomb through this time of year. well thats my season over, and im glad to see the back of it, fished at allanton tday,my mate had a 4lb early doors and that was it ,not even a glimpse of another fish, most of the fish will be well up river now, ready for spawning. this has been the most disapointing season ive experienced on whiteadder, roll on next year, and a big improvement.
