I'm fishing West Learmouth on the Lower Tweed for the last week of the season. This will be new territory for me, can any of you Tweed experts out there tell me what to expect , will it be all big tubes and sinking lines ?

Best thing to do is to give Bob a call and he will give you all the advice you are looking for. He is a great guy and knows his fishing. You will thoroughly enjoy fishing at West Learmouth, that is if the weather is kind to you.

I fished here in the summer. Bob will certainly look after you and keep you right.
Its right hand bank and the water is pretty deep generally, so i would envisage it will be a sunk line and a big tube. I think you will be in the boat for a half your day too.

Better make that a very big tube - Tweed is 8' and rising!

Tyne Andrew is right- The water is deep and if it is cold you are likely to be using fast sinking lines and big tubes, although if the water is lower you will not need to dredge. It is a short beat and you are likely just to fish the learmouth stream and the pool just a couple of hundred yards below.
West Learmouth fishes best in low-ish water and if you get it, you stand a chance of a bonanza. I fished there a few weeks ago at 3ft on the gauge, not West Learmouth's height. I fished there about five days before the end of the season last year with ice in the margins and had a good day, we were still picking up sea-liced fish..
Bob is a great guy but runs the beat with Military efficiency. Expect to fish 9- darkwith half an hour for lunch!
Good luck.Simon

Many thanks for these responses , I get the message that I need my fast sinking lines and big tubes . I spoke with Bob this morning, the river was around 16feet above normal and he was moving the chairs on to the table in the hut ! Fingers crossed there won't be too much more rain this week and I should be OK for next week- forever the optimist ! Thanks once again.
