Guys, for your info Another break out from a fish farm. The responsible company is Fjord Seafood Scotland in East Loch Roag during high winds between January 11 and 13 with two cages affected. 20,000 escapees. According to the STA there was no notification to the relevant agencies or Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department until January 16. Responsible Aquaculture? It is almost a year since a similar break out. So much for the state of the art sea cages. But, to be fair, who would have expected bad weather in the Outer Hebrides during January? As you know there is a consultation paper on the go which will ‘inform’ the Aquaculture and Fisheries Bill, due in 2007. I wont go off on a rant about this- you alll know the threat these things pose. If you feel motivated to do something have a looked at the sea trout groups response to the consultation. www.seatroutgroup.org.uk/html/stg_response.htmlmacd

That sounds like very bad news, god knows what impact that could have on some rivers?
Does anyone know the survival capabilities of these fish once escaped and if they end up running up our rivers and spawning with wild fish. Maybe they just spread out many die and the impact is negligible. Hope its the latter..

The seals will have the vast majority i would think. Looking at some of the farmed salmon you see in the supermarkets, they would be hard pushed to out swim me, let alone a seal, and I swim like a house brick.
