Never been there - and for those who (like me) don't know where it is have a squint at www.coupargrange.co.uk/Certainly the costs of good and bad salmon fishing elsewhere are rising markedly, don't suppose there's any reason why it wouldn't be the case on the Tay IMHO

Look at the catch figures not many beats can match this beat for catches, sure the the beat does not have classic fly water but they are plenty of people wanting on this beat and i think that speaks for itself. Alan

As a regular at Coupar Grange over the last 2 years you are spot on Scotty! I have a lot of good things to say about the beat and the ghillie, Johnny but at those prices I doubt if I will be back after March. Such is the cost to fish the most successful beat on the tay system!

sure plenty people want to fish it and it does have a very good return but alot of these grilse are 2-3lbs (so i have been told) ...but its just not for me, i feel that an increase in permit prices of that scale is to much for one jump.

Its seems to be the norm just look at fishdee what they are wanting for a slim chance of a springer

The owner also pays for the success of the beat,For the success over the previous 5 yr average if the Boards demand is way over £30,000,it's not rocket science at the present prices, there has to be an increase !. Coupar Grange catches more spring salmon than any other beat in the Tay system. ....Grilse. Every beat in Britain had small grilse, especially this season. The majority of spring fish are caught on the fly as well ! Nobody on any river system works harder than Johnny to get rods a fish Listen to him, he only gives sound advice, ignore him at your peril. I am a BIG fan and I don't fish with him.!

i maybe wrong but I'm sure in the last 5 years the Price has rocketed on this beat. and fishery boards to blame! a reliable source tells me that rates work out around £50 a salmon caught. look at fish tweed or fish tay and catch returns are lot less on most upper beats just to provide fishing that wont break the bank to most working class fishers

Do you think they fritter it away on wild parties? The largest slice is spent on Bailiffs and fish protection, cost of vehicles and fuel has risen steeply in the last few years. Hatcheries and research take another large slice. Would you rather do without Bailiffs or hatcheries?

never having fished at coupar grange i cant really remark on the fact of prices but ive fished at bendochy church below coupar grange and i know its a fantastic water its not a "flowing" river but it sure gets the heart pumping when you know fish are being caught above where you are and i must agree with kercock that coupar grange does catch more fish in the tay sytem than any other

61% of an increase in permit cost is just too much over 1 season.

The levy price per salmon on the Tay is in fact a fraction over £ 30 per salmon,it may surprise you to know. I thought the levy was around £70 but when I asked a member of the board, who does know, that was the answer I got,,,, £30 As far as I understood it a syndicate member ,if he fished every day allocated, in fact was paying around £25 per day. You have to say that is cheap fishing ! I'm not defending Coupar Grange I am really being logical. How many people can part with a grand in a oner for their salmon fishing season ticket. Quite a few it seems. Some people only fish the Kola region and other far flung places, like Tierra Del Fwatsit, its all relative. I'M employed as a ghillie and don't have time to fish anywhere ! ! !.

hello kercock, they will not be parting with a grand next season cause there aint no season tickets . they have done away with them, and all i can say is we had a good kick at the ball before the ball burst. i will miss it but i will just have to find somewhere else cant justify paying money like that cheers craig

Would you rather do without Bailiffs or hatcheries? sorry got carried away a little WG. on larger rivers this maybe true but i was told on my local river everyone keep quiet about salmon catches unless the forth bailiff knows about them due to the Levey being £50 fish caught. now we only pay £20 a year no full time bailiff, no poaching patrols, hatchery ect the sums dint work out if we have a bumper year? now if i was paying £100-150+ for a days fishing and my chances of fish were good its a different story. thing is couper grange is being priced out of a lot of peoples price range in a short space of time?
